ABOUT THE ROLE

Role Overview

The Cosy is an independent coffee house located in The Lighthouse in the heart of Woking Town Centre.  It sits alongside the projects in The Lighthouse and has its own beautifully created and separate space for people to come and relax in.

The Cosy exists to:

  • Attract and encourage people to visit The Lighthouse to experience something of the vibrant atmosphere and engage with the work of The Lighthouse, whilst enjoying the finest of coffee, teas, and good food.

  • Generate profits from its operation which are used to sustain the work of The Lighthouse.

  • Provide an opportunity for training and apprenticeships.

The Lighthouse is looking for a person who can support The Lighthouse House on a zero hours basis, to lead the volunteer team and run the café during planned and unplanned staff absences. 

Role Responsibilities

The following are the key responsibilities:

  • To lead and nurture the volunteer Cosy team when on duty, holding responsibility for the café whilst working. 

  • To kindly lead and encourage the volunteer team. 

  • To ensuring that The Cosy is fully stocked of consumables for the volunteers to run the coffee house.

  • To be able to open and set up The Cosy (including food hygiene checks).

  • To be able to close The Cosy ready for the next re-opening.

  • To be responsible for the health and safety, including food and fire safety procedures.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for a person with the following attributes and experience:

  • Ability to lead and maintain a strong customer focussed team of volunteers.

  • Experience of working or volunteering in food/drink customer focussed service organisation.

  • Ability to hold a variety of responsibilities at the same time, and to prioritise effectively.

  • Confidence to take initiative, be resourceful and make decisions.

  • Organised and efficient, with excellent attention to detail.

  • Able to cultivate a positive rapport and collaboration with various team members and external parties.

  • Empathy with and ability to model The Lighthouse values, which include compassion, dignity, acceptance, and a love for all.

Days and Hours of Work: This role is offered on a zero-hours contract basis to cover planned and unplanned absence. There is no guarantee of any minimum hours of work, and The Lighthouse is under no obligation to provide work. Any work offered is subject to operational requirements, and the postholder is under no obligation to accept such work.

Reporting to: The Cosy Manager, or if absent, the Lighthouse Centre Manager (Woking)

Salary: The hourly rate is £13.39. In addition, rolled-up holiday pay of £1.62 per hour is paid in line with this zero-hours contract. This results in a total hourly rate of £15.01 inclusive of holiday pay.
